It’s official now. The host city of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest has been announced as Rotterdam. Today, Dutch Host Broadcaster NPO released more details about next year’s contest.

Duncan Laurence paved the way for the Eurovision to take place in the Netherlands after the years by winning the competition with his emotional song Arcade. After the victory, host broadcaster NPO and EBU have cooperated with each other to evaluate the facilities of candidate cities (Rotterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch, Arnhem, Maastricht). Among five candidates, the race proceeded between the two: Maastricht and Rotterdam!

The second-largest city in the Netherlands, Rotterdam, has been revealed as host city for the 65th Eurovision Song Contest. The Contest will be held on Tuesday 12, Thursday 14 and Saturday 16 May 2020. Jon Ola Sand, the EBU’s Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest, said, “Rotterdam has shown fantastic enthusiasm and commitment and has the right facilities to welcome delegations from over 40 countries next May. We look forward to working with Rotterdam and NPO, NOS and AVROTROS on an incredible state-of-the-art Eurovision Song Contest in a great city next year.”

Shula Rijxman, Director General of NPO said: “It is our wish to organize a Eurovision Song Contest that is embraced throughout the Netherlands and also functions as a showcase for our country in Europe. We are happy that as a public broadcaster we can now really work together with Rotterdam and the Ahoy arena to organize a unique event that connects and inspires all inhabitants of the Netherlands and Europe.”

The venue Ahoy Arena consists of three main parts: a fairs and event hall, a congress and conference center, and the main arena. The number of seating is 16,426 and it is expected that the capacity of arena will be a change in a positive or negative manner because of pieces of equipment using for the visual shows.
