Slovenian representative at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest and regional Eurovision record holder, Martina Majerle, presents the new, sensual ballad ‘Volin Kad Si Tu‘, with which she debuted at the 23rd Evenings of Dalmatian Chansons Šibenik 2020…
“For me personally, performing at the Večeri dalmatinskih šansona (Evenings of Dalmatian Chansons) is a big thing, it’s a festival based on the legacy of Arsen Dedić. This is a festival where the most respected singers performed and I am extremely happy to have been in such company. The song I performed with is a powerful pop ballad in the Italian style. The melody, signed by Duško Rapotec-Ute, won me over on first listening. I was especially touched by the wonderful verses of Marina Cetina, who intertwined a gentle, intimate story about the strong and timeless love of a woman. Appearing in such a competition for the first time, as well as receiving an award, is an amazing experience, so I thank the festival for making it possible for me,” says Martina Majerle, who has also fought for a Eurovision ticket at EMA 2015 with the song ‘Alive’.
Although she performed at the Evenings of Dalmatian Chansons for the first time, Martina Majerle is an extremely experienced musician, for whom she performed eight times at the Eurovision Song Contest (in 2009 she represented Slovenia with the Quartissimo, with the song Love Symphony), multiple participations in the Slovenian Eurovision Song Contest, EMA, she was also part of the show Dancing with the Stars, where she participated as a member of a musical ensemble that performed live songs.
She has already performed at the Olympia in Paris, as well as at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and accompanied the biggest regional and Eurovision stars on world tours, just like Tereza Kesovija (MON 1966, YUG 1972), Zdravko Čolić (YUG 1973), Novi Fosili (YUG 1987), Severina (CRO 2006), Nina Badrić (CRO 2012) and many others. She also received numerous awards for performances at various festivals across the region.
»From the moment I stepped on stage, I felt this incredible energy in the space itself, in front of the cathedral and the moody audience. The festival orchestra was fantastic, my colleagues were a great support on stage, and I was most surprised when Gabi Novak, the wife of Arsen Dedić, congratulated me after the performance. I wish that my song ‘Volin Kad Si Tu’ will come to life on the air and that I will return to the festival someday, “says the likeable Martina Majerle, who received the third prize of the expert jury for her performance at the festival.
