Today we celebrate 51th anniversary of Eurovision 1964, Gigliola Cinquetti’s and Italy’s first victory…In 1964 Eurovision held in Copenhagen/Denmark after victory of Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann…Tivolis Koncertsal in Copenhagen hosted event and it was presented by Lotte Wæver. 16 countries participated the contest.

Details:

– Portugal made its début in the contest, however they became the first country to score nul points on their début

-Germany, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia also scored nul points for the first time

-The Netherlands became the first country to send a singer of non-European ancestry, Anneke Grönloh was of Indonesian descent

-The Spanish group Los TNT was the first group of three or more participants of the history of the ESC

About Gigliola Cinquetti:

Gigliola Cinquetti was 16 years old in 1964 and she sang “Non ho l’età” (“I’m Not Old Enough”) in Copenhagen. That was Italy’s first victory. After that she became an international success. In 1974 she came back Eurovision with her song “Sì” and became 2nd with 18 points. In 1991 she came back again contest as a presenter with 1990’s winner Toto Cutugno.
