Today we celebrate 49th anniversary of Eurovision 1966 and Üdo Jürgens’ victory. In 1966 Eurovision held in Luxembourg after victory of France Gall…Grand Auditorium de RTL in Villa Louvigny hosts event and it was presented by Josiane Chen. 18 countries participated the contest.

Üdo Jürgens (1964, 1965) and Domenico Modugno (1958, 1959) returned contest. Üdo Jürgens won the contest with 31 points but Domenico Modugno from Italy became last with Monaco with “0” point.

During the voting process, the presenter (Josiane Chen) accidentally greeted United Kingdom by saying “Good night, London.”, then, she realized the mistake and said “Good evening, London.”, after Michael Aspel, who was the spokesperson for the United Kingdom, at that time, responded by saying “Good morning, Luxembourg.”

And  Üdo Jurgens won the contest for Austria first time with his song “Merci, Chérie”. After that Austria wait 48 years for victory but on 21 December 2014, Jürgens died of acute heart failure in Münsterlingen, Switzerland at the age of 80…
